As we have discussed in a previous article, this month we are going to assist to a very tight conjunction between Jupiter and Venus. In this post we are going to describe the meaning of this aspect which is going to take place in the sign of Virgo on August 27th.
Venus and Jupiter—the two benefics—are traditionally known as Fortuna Minor and Fortuna Major, respectively. They were regarded as “good planets” which brought fortune and happiness in life: Jupiter represents expansion, ideals, trust, confidence, growth, a sense of belonging and abundance; Venus is the goddess of love that brings romance, pleasure, contentment, balance, beauty and well-being.
Theoretically their conjunction can be read as a combination of the given symbologies. So, for example we have: fulfilling relationships; abundance of love; beautiful ideals; aesthetics (philosophy of art, beauty and taste); wealth and health; growth experiences through relationships; community support; trust and openness towards others, etc.
Now that we’ve got a list of possible meanings we have to narrow them down to those compatible with Virgo. Basically the sign tunes—like a radio—the planetary energy, giving it a specific frequency or “mode of expression”. Unfortunately, this is when bad news get in the way because Jupiter and Venus in Virgo are in their detriment and fall, respectively.
This means that the Virgo energy is not very compatible with those of the planets. First of all—as an earth sign—Virgo is mainly concerned with practical issues such as work, money, stability, and so on. Specifically, it is a very work oriented sign: it is efficient, attentive to details, responsible, humble and it fits perfectly in job routine. As you can see things are not going to be as rosy as we expected.
Let’s see now how this type of energy is going to affect the conjunction. Jupiter in Virgo is not able to express freely its higher, philosophical, ideals and it is literally brought back down-to-earth. Its ability to expand and grow things is applied to the material plane (earth element), so the leading thought becomes: “work hard and everything is going to be all right”. Mainly, Jupiter in Virgo brings wealth through hard work and confidence—still, any higher achievement is sacrificed in return.
Similarly, Venus in Virgo loses both her artistic and romantic qualities. The love she is able to express here passes through the earth element: she’s mainly concerned with the well-being of the beloved ones, taking care of them through material support. It is a motherly and mature type of love. If Jupiter in Virgo brings wealth, Venus’ gift is a good health.
In conclusion, this conjunction enables us to confront an underestimated—but not so unusual—form of love. It is that type of love which requires us to take responsibility, to work hard, to take care of those we love, to believe that in the end everything’s going to be alright. Venus and Jupiter in Virgo may be debilitated—unable to be who they really are—but they are nevertheless able to give us a precious life lesson.
