Total Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius 2020 — The Dragon of Colonialism

The last eclipse of the year is coming. It’s going to be a Total Solar Eclipse, occurring at 23° Sagittarius on the South Node—the Cauda Draconis. The tail of the Dragon is about destructuring and destroying, and being the Moon in trine with Mars this eclipse is going to be releasing destructive forces coming from the shadow aspect of Sagittarius.

According to Anthroposophy, a solar eclipse releases out in the cosmos the human will that no longer serves our evolution. It is an accumulation and an expulsion of soul substance, instincts that would damage us remaining here on Earth. So on one hand we are called to confront that Shadow (specifically where the eclipse is visible); on the other that substance is going to be expelled.

Being Mars involved, and the eclipse taking place in Sagittarius, the main theme emerging spontaneously is Colonialism. Let’s see why this delicate topic really concerns us all.

The Colonialist Mindset

Colonialism is something that spreads like a disease. It all starts with the mindset of being above. Nature, as well as other cultures, are inferior to those eyes. For this reason, they feel entitled to conquer them, to rule them, and to exploit them. Everything becomes just a useful—or not useful—thing, a part of a bigger project.

The justifications for this attitude are promptly served. “We are bringing them civilization”, “we are exporting democracy”, “we are teaching them the word of God”. They impose their beliefs, their culture, their language.

This process doesn’t want to simply conquer you—it wants to convert you. The hypocrisy (and bigotry) of colonialism consists in wanting you to believe that it’s gonna make you better, that you almost needed that. The battle doesn’t concern the physical level only. It extends to our beliefs.

Colonialism Within

We like to think about colonialism as something of the past, something that has nothing to do with us. But the truth about colonialism is that for the most part it is a way of looking at the world. It’s an attitude, a mindset we can assume without having necessarily to take up a rifle. And we might be feeling uncomfortable realizing how much of it dwells within us.

Let’s be honest. How many times do we look at others as a social resource? Might be a useful friendship, or a passing relationship. Mutual benefits are an integral part of any relationship, but how far do we go?

Do we look at people as part of our projects? When we see potential in people, how do we behave? Do we want them to develop it with their times, or do we want them to express it sooner so we can take part of it?

Without moralizing, I think this concerns us all, isn’t it? Exploiting others is a sensitive issue that is usually linked to narcissism. But it is not necessary for it to reach pathological levels to recognize it within us and becoming aware of it.

Another aspect concerns our relationship with Nature. I think mankind is becoming more and more aware of this issue, especially thanks to the latest environmental impulses that have arisen in recent decades. Not least the contribution of Greta Thunberg.

In my opinion this is mainly a systemic problem which requires systemic answers. But they will never come until we change our personal relationship with natural resources. This because people holding positions of power who might introduce those changes simply don’t feel them as impelling. Because collectively, we don’t feel them as such.

Most Affected Locations

As always, we are going to use Astrocartography and the eclipse path to determine where the eclipse is going to have the greatest impact. Astrocartography can show us where in the world the event is going to take place on one of the angles: Ascendant (red line), Descendant (yellow line), Midheaven (green line) and Imum Coeli (light blue line). In an astrological chart these spots are the most powerful.

We are going to combine these information with the actual path of the eclipse, that is where the event is going to be visible. Here’s the path as provided by TimeAndDate.com:

As you can see the eclipse is taking in place mainly in South America and part of South Africa. These are among the most exploited geographical areas on the planet. So this eclipse is going to serve the purpose of purifying human greed in regards of natural resources.

To a lesser extent, what we have said also applies to the red, yellow and light blue lines. As you can see Africa takes the most part of the yellow line. It’s interesting that again Wuhan, China is on the IC line, considering what happened there with the so called wet markets and the consequent risks of zoonosis.
