New Moon in Aquarius 2017

Reading Time : 3 minutes

JAN28, FULL MOON @ 9° Aquarius

Each new moon occurs in darkness—like a seed sprouting underground. The doors of the skies are opened and new astral forces can penetrate into the orbit of the earth. Every month this process happens under the auspices of a zodiac sign, which leaves its mark on those energies.

Let’s take a break from the Cardinal T-square. Yes—it is still there—but the upcoming lunar month seems to detach from its energies. Actually, we should say “from all energies” because the Moon and the Sun (always in conjunction on a New Moon) are not making any aspect. With no other planet. No one.

It’s like a month off, an opportunity to move away from it all—and just breathe. Sometimes January feels like it, right? Everything stands still under a blanket of snow. Nature rests, and it’s time to just observe in silence without acting.

Sabian Symbol @ 9° Aquarius

When I can’t find many clues about a planet or—as in this case—a conjunction I take a look at the Sabian Symbols. Their story is very interesting, so I highly suggest you to check them out. In a nutshell, they are 360 symbols related to each degree of the Zodiac. Modern astrologers often use them as an intuitive tool to think out of the box.

The New Moon occurs at 9° Aquarius. Here’s the corresponding Sabian Symbol commented by the great astrologer Dane Rudhyar in his book An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and Its 360 Symbolic Phases:

PHASE 309 (AQUARIUS 9°)

A FLAG IS SEEN TURNING INTO AN EAGLE

KEYNOTE: The dynamic incorporation of new social values in individuals who exemplify the spiritual potential and greatest significance of these values.

[…] All that is implied here is the vitalization of a powerful symbol, its embodiment in a living reality, i.e. in a person able to fly in consciousness to the highest spiritual realm. The archetype is given living substance and wings. The Image has become a Power.

I really like this symbol. The flag turning into an eagle means—as Rudhyar suggests—that what we usually consider as an ideal symbol must become a living being. The POTUS for example should embody the ideals that US citizens project on him. Ok, I know—please don’t laugh—I’m not saying that Trump is going to become that eagle.

We have already discussed about his inauguration speech. And—let’s face it—he is far from even resemble the ideal POTUS. But in my opinion it’s not important the way he presents himself. What really matters is what he is actually going to do. So, is he really going to make social justice? What do you think? We will see.

Lovers in the Sky

Venus and Mars are in conjunction. This powerful encounter—occurring in the emotional sign of Pisces—is all about love and romance. It tells a struggling story, though. The planets can’t reach each other (separating aspect), as Saturn gets in their way—squaring the conjunction.

It’s almost like the Saturnian energy (could be an authoritarian father, a stifling job, or the lack of money) is preventing the beloved (Venus) to reach the lover (Mars)—who’s leaving the country in search of fortune (he is actually about to change sign).

As you can see Astrology is able to depict in the sky human dramas that are able to inspire us all. Do you feel any connection with it? Let me know in the comments below.

Secrets Revealed

Mercury has reached Pluto. When the planet of communication is in conjunction with the ruler of hidden powers things get very interesting. [ictt-tweet-inline]There can be both whispered secrets and manipulative lies[/ictt-tweet-inline].

From a social perspective—since Pluto represents the financial elite—this can also be the beginning of an interesting dialogue with Trump. Nevertheless, the square with both Jupiter and Uranus do not bode well for the short-term future.

Venus in Aquarius: Free Love and Poliamory

Reading Time : 3 minutes

Yesterday, Venus entered Aquarius. This transit is all about Love and Freedom: two topics that I hold dearly, especially when they go hand in hand. There are many ways you can combine these concepts. To name a few: freedom of love, loving someone unconditionally, being free by loving what you do, and so on.

As a gay man, the most important in my life has obviously been freedom of love. As you may know I’m Italian, and my country has approved a law for same-sex civil unions only this year. Alas, we are far behind many European countries when it comes to civil rights for the LGBTQ community. Just consider for example that Spain introduced same sex marriage ten years (!) ago.

We still have much to do to fight homophobia in this country. For most of the people freedom of love comes free—they take it for granted—but for us it still has a price.

For example, in Italy is quite rare to see same-sex couples walking hand in hand on the street—even in big cities. It may seem an insignificant detail, but freedom is also expressed through small, spontaneous gestures. Most of us still feel uncomfortable to do so.

That’s why this law has been a revolution for us, perfectly attuned with the energies of [ictt-tweet-inline]freedom and progress flowing from the Aquarius[/ictt-tweet-inline].

Free Love and Poliamory

Regarding love and progress, have you ever heard of Polyamory? It is the modern reinterpretation of the free love concept of the 60s-70s. According to wikipedia:

Polyamory (from Greek πολύ poly, “many, several”, and Latin amor, “love”) is the practice of, or desire for, intimate relationships where individuals may have more than one partner, with the knowledge and consent of all partners. It has been described as “consensual, ethical, and responsible non-monogamy”.

What do you think about it? Personally I think that the idea behind polyamory is perfectly understandable, so I don’t have any problem with that. Nevertheless, I have to say that in my opinion it requires a high level of personal development—on both sides—to be put it into practice in a honest way.

Let’s face it: [ictt-tweet-inline]people have the tendency to hide their weakness behind high ideals[/ictt-tweet-inline]. Poliamory could just be one of them. And I’m not saying that all people embracing this lifestyle are lying to themselves. I’m saying that sometimes people don’t want to face what’s wrong in their relationship, so they label it in a fancy way pretending that everything’s alright.

So, is monogamy over? I don’t think so. I think we are going towards a motley society made—as a mosaic—by pieces of many colors. But I think Monogamy is more likely going to remain the main one. This because monogamous relationships are already hard—imagine how complex they could be just introducing a third person! You definitely need more than a good reason to do so.

And please don’t think that if you have Venus in Aquarius in your Natal Chart you can’t be monogamous! It just means that you love progress and modernity, and your relationship is going to reflect that, somehow. On top of that, you also need to put in the equation at least your fifth, seventh and eighth house to get the whole picture.

Venus in Scorpio, a Nasty Burn

Reading Time : 3 minutes

volcanoes-691939_1280

Sometimes life is wierd. Simple, everyday actions sudenly go wrong and you find yourself injured—stuck in a hospital for three weeks. This is at least what doctors are saying, and no—I’m not talking about me.

Last week my boyfriend had a bad burn, caused by a hot water bottle that blew up behind his lower back. I am still cursing that damn thing. How can an object so small and common make such a damage? I still can’t figure it out.

Burns are hard. They are probably the worst kind of injuries you can get. They loose liquids, you are exposed to infections and the skin is not able to regenerate easily by itself. It takes time—if not a surgery—and you need to be very patient.

Furthermore, hospitals are like holes in spacetime. If you stay in bed long enough they start to mess with your head. Daylight and night time blend together—eclipsed by articial light—while restelessness, pain and meds welcome you in Wonderland.

Apparently, this is burns time. The staff of this department is very busy because a lot of people get hurt trying to start stoves or fireplaces (guys, please don’t use alcohol!). Personally, I like to think that this is the bad influence of Venus in Scorpio which—when this blog is published—will be in Sagittarius. Let’s talk about it.

The Skin according to Astrology

In Astrology the planets ruling the skin are Saturn and Venus, which give us two very different perspectives on the matter.

First of all, being the Reaper, Saturn has power over all dead things. Furthermore—as the Guardian of the Threshold—he also rules all sorts of borders and boundaries. Combining these symbols together we’ve got “dead borders”. This is obviously related to the skin considered as the border of our body which—at least on the outer layer—is made of dead cells.

In regards to Venus, we can say that she rules beauty, as well as pleasure or—in this case—well being. [ictt-tweet-inline hashtags=”astrology”]All women know that a luminous and young skin is the secret of beauty[/ictt-tweet-inline]—otherwise why bother with lotions and makeup? Our well being is seen by the skin, too.

Boundary (Saturn, earth element) and appearence (Venus, air element) are the two pillars of the skin according to medical astrology.

The Goddess and the Serpent

Scorpio is ruled by Mars and Pluto. It is the sign of death and rebirth, so every process of regeneration deals with its energies. This also applies to skin regeneration—just think about the well known metaphor of the serpent changing its envelope. This is mainly due to Pluto’s influence on the sign.

What about Mars instead? This fiery planet—the God of War—is the lord of all injuries. This is the main reason why the goddess of pleasure is not well here. [ictt-tweet-inline]Beauty and contentment are both sacrificed on the altar of deep regeneration[/ictt-tweet-inline] that requires a blood toll. Ironically, in my previous blog I compared red wine to blood, just inspired by Venus in Scorpio.

In conclusion I’d like to say that I don’t believe that a single planetary transit is able to affect people in such a deterministic way. As you may know [ictt-tweet-inline hashtags=”astrology”]I look at the sky looking for inspiration, not for mass prediction[/ictt-tweet-inline]. If you want to use astrology to dispel the darkness of an unclear event you should always—always—go back to your Natal Chart.

Have a good week.

The Voice of the New Moon in Libra 2016

Reading Time : 2 minutes

Each new moon occurs in darkness—like a seed sprouting underground. The doors of the skies are opened and new astral forces can penetrate into the orbit of the earth. Every month this process happens under the auspices of a zodiac sign, which leaves its mark on these energies.

As always, October is influenced by the forces of Libra which carries balance, harmony and beauty. As the moon reaches the Sun it is impregnated of his vitality, ready to dispense it to all the zodiac on its monthly cycle.

The Lady of the forces of Libra is Venus—the Goddess of all beauty and mother of every contentment. I watch her transiting in Scorpio, thinking about how [ictt-tweet-inline]Nature is able to be so beautiful—even while it’s dying[/ictt-tweet-inline]. You can almost feel it in the taste of red grape berries, harvested to be pulped and turned into wine—it really looks like blood.

uva

As Nature begins to transform its vital forces, the world of men is inspired by Jupiter through a renewed sense of justice. I can see him battling in the sky with Mars which—in Capricorn—becomes the bearer of all individualistic actions. It’s like an epic fight between two opposite forces: sense of belonging to a just society versus personal gain.

We have all experienced this struggle. And it would be too easy to label Mars as the bad guy: sometimes the best choice is to do whatever is right for you regardless of anyone else—especially when it comes to survival. But we know that [ictt-tweet-inline]surviving isn’t living, and in the end we all need a place to belong[/ictt-tweet-inline]. It really depends on where you are right now in your life.

And you? Which side are you on?

Personally, I feel like I am in the middle. Mostly I am focused on myself and my personal gain, but I try to always look at other people’s perspective. I don’t like to mistreat others or be disrespectful, but I am still at the center of my little world. And when I say little, I really mean it because in the end [ictt-tweet-inline]when you filter reality through a single point of view your experience can only be restricted[/ictt-tweet-inline].

Venus conjunct Jupiter in Virgo

Reading Time : 2 minutes

As we have discussed in a previous article, this month we are going to assist to a very tight conjunction between Jupiter and Venus. In this post we are going to describe the meaning of this aspect which is going to take place in the sign of Virgo on August 27th.

vnCjp_sky

Venus and Jupiter—the two benefics—are traditionally known as Fortuna Minor and Fortuna Major, respectively. They were regarded as “good planets” which brought fortune and happiness in life: Jupiter represents expansion, ideals, trust, confidence, growth, a sense of belonging and abundance; Venus is the goddess of love that brings romance, pleasure, contentment, balance, beauty and well-being.

Theoretically their conjunction can be read as a combination of the given symbologies. So, for example we have: fulfilling relationships; abundance of love; beautiful ideals; aesthetics (philosophy of art, beauty and taste); wealth and health; growth experiences through relationships; community support; trust and openness towards others, etc.

Now that we’ve got a list of possible meanings we have to narrow them down to those compatible with Virgo. Basically the sign tunes—like a radio—the planetary energy, giving it a specific frequency or “mode of expression”. Unfortunately, this is when bad news get in the way because Jupiter and Venus in Virgo are in their detriment and fall, respectively.

This means that the Virgo energy is not very compatible with those of the planets. First of all—as an earth sign—Virgo is mainly concerned with practical issues such as work, money, stability, and so on. Specifically, it is a very work oriented sign: it is efficient, attentive to details, responsible, humble and it fits perfectly in job routine. As you can see things are not going to be as rosy as we expected.

Let’s see now how this type of energy is going to affect the conjunction. Jupiter in Virgo is not able to express freely its higher, philosophical, ideals and it is literally brought back down-to-earth. Its ability to expand and grow things is applied to the material plane (earth element), so the leading thought becomes: “work hard and everything is going to be all right”. Mainly, Jupiter in Virgo brings wealth through hard work and confidence—still, any higher achievement is sacrificed in return.

Similarly, Venus in Virgo loses both her artistic and romantic qualities. The love she is able to express here passes through the earth element: she’s mainly concerned with the well-being of the beloved ones, taking care of them through material support. It is a motherly and mature type of love. If Jupiter in Virgo brings wealth, Venus’ gift is a good health.

In conclusion, this conjunction enables us to confront an underestimated—but not so unusual—form of love. It is that type of love which requires us to take responsibility, to work hard, to take care of those we love, to believe that in the end everything’s going to be alright. Venus and Jupiter in Virgo may be debilitated—unable to be who they really are—but they are nevertheless able to give us a precious life lesson.

July 28, 29 – Delta Aquarids Meteor Shower

d-aquarids3

Delta Aquarids meteor shower takes place every year from about July 12 to August 23. Its nominal peak occurs around July 28-29, during which we can observe up to 20 meteors per hour. The moon is waning, so its slender crescent shouldn’t get in the way too much.

August 11, 12 – Perseids Meteor Shower

perseids

Probably the most famous meteor shower, Perseids are traditionally known as Tears of Saint Lawrence. They are the easiest to spot since during their peak they produce up to 60 falling stars per hour. Just look toward Cassiopeia—the W-shaped constellation—during the night of August 11 and enjoy the show.

August 16 – Mercury at Greatest Eastern Elongation

mercury_elongation

On August 16, Mercury reaches maximum distance away from the Sun. This means it can be spotted by the naked eye, looking to the western horizon just after sunset. Since its light is very weak, you can use Jupiter and Venus as a reference.

August 27 – Conjunction of Venus and Jupiter

vnCjp_sky

On August 27 we are going to see a rare phenomenon: Venus and Jupiter are going to be just 0.06 degrees from one another—so close that (for the naked eye) they are going to merge together in a single star! Don’t miss it!

Karma vs Providence

Reading Time : 4 minutes

The Law of Karma and the Divine Providence are two different ways of understanding the laws that rule human destiny. In this article we are going to consider them from an astrological perspective, in order to understand how they are affecting us on a subconscious level. We don’t need to believe in them: they represent nevertheless two different ways of seeing the world and making decisions.

Karma and Providence are two completely opposite concepts—even geographically speaking. They are part of two vast belief systems, far too complex to face in a single article. So, let’s clear up what we mean here when we speak of Karma and Providence respectively.

Karma and Saturn

With the term “Karma” we mean the general belief that good intent and good deed contribute to future happiness (good karma), while bad intent and bad deed contribute to future suffering (bad karma). It is a law of cause and effect, so everyone is responsible for what’s happening to him. It is also a law based on reward and punishment—equally applied to everyone.

You don’t need to believe in reincarnation to have this kind of mindset. If you are a down-to-earth, responsible, self-made person with a strong sense of individuality, you are probably going to resonate with this law which—from the astrological perspective—corresponds to Saturn.

Justice is the moral compass of this law, so to speak, since the point here is to balance back a broken equilibrium. It is also a linear way of thinking, based on moral judgement—good brings good and bad brings bad. From this perspective the Universe is a predictable place. This makes us feel we are in control, that we are the makers of our own fate.

Providence and Jupiter

In Christianity, Providence is generally speaking God’s intervention in the world. As such, what happens to you is always inherently good—even though it’s hard and senseless. As they say, God has a plan for you but from your human, limited perspective you can’t get the bigger picture yet. He may be tough, but God gives you nothing you can’t handle. He knows what he is doing:  you just need to trust the process.

Again, you don’t need to believe in God or be a Christian to embrace this mindset. People who consider life as a learning experience—a journey always able to give them teachings—are on this wavelength. They know that whatever happens they will be enriched, because they value their experience more than their material achievements. They are led by a form of wisdom, which in astrology corresponds to Jupiter. They know how to face uncertainty.

Faith is the moral compass of Providence. You just have to trust this force to provide you with everything you need in order to make the experience you are supposed to do. If currently you are not getting something in your life it means that at the moment you don’t need it to make that experience.

Giving a meaning to the Law of Attraction

In the spiritual community the most famous law which describes how destiny works is the Law of Attraction—technically ruled by Venus. From a psychological point of view this law can be summed up by this C.G. Jung’s sentence: “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate” (please read the Venus page for further details).

The truth is that the law of attraction doesn’t come with a moral compass: it’s just a vibrational—or unconscious—mechanism. What’s gives this law a direction is the fact we resonate with a saturnian or jovial mindset which are able to give meaning to what we are going through.

Let’s say for example your car broke down. The law of attraction says that you are resonating with this experience, therefore you are attracting it in your life. But this still doesn’t make any sense. It’s like saying: “you are going to Berlin by plane because it can fly”. Describing a mechanism doesn’t necessarily give us an answer.

So why has your car broken down? A Saturn person would react by saying:

s7_feat

How could this happen? Who is responsible for this?

What have I done wrong (in my past/previous life)?

If I’m  attracting this into my life, it means I’m wrong

If you are attracting this into your life, it means you are wrong

How can I prevent this from happening again?

You should do this to prevent it from happening again

As you can see this way of thinking follows a punishment/reward mindset with a strong sense of justice and responsibility. Saturn people unconsciously believe in “Karma” because in the end they believe they are causing what’s happening to them.

A Jupiter person would react in a totally different way, by saying:

j6_feat

What am I supposed to learn?

Did this happen before? What do I still have to learn?

If I’m  attracting this into my life, it means I need it to grow as a person

If you are attracting this into your life, it means you need it to grow as a person

If it were to happen again it means that I have not learned the lesson yet

I am going to benefit from this experience

They believe in “Providence” because they think the Universe is always going to provide them with what they need in order to make the experience they are supposed to do. Their ultimate goal is expansion and growth which are strong jovial symbologies.

Now you should be able to discern whether you are following a Saturn mentality or a Jupiter mentality in your life, and better understand how they are affecting the way you react to certain situations. This is extremely helpful because it reveals your hidden belief system and allows you to expand your inner awareness.
