Sun enters Virgo 2021 — Lívstræðrir, Threads of Life

Reading Time : 3 minutes

September has come, and the great wheel start spinning again. Coldness is the movement of the Soul that goes from without towards within. Everything begins to shrink, slowly getting back into itself. It’s the movement of our consciousness coming back home. The last part of Summer wants us to wake up.

But have we slept, during the last months? Did we allow the Sulphur of the Dragon, entangled in the summer heat, to trick us into an illusional head space, built on the fake tower of our instincts? Dear illusions, they help us to carry on after all. But maybe now the time has come to leave part of them behind.

Michelangelo’s Pietà, St Peter’s Basilica (1498–99)

The Sun has entered Virgo—the Virgin Mother. In Nature there is this mysterious space, very difficult to spot. It is the space between the physical and the etheric, the dense and the subtle. When does the subtle worlds become physical? Where is it, this ineffable space when one fades into the other? When the subtle becomes heavy, when the etheric becomes matter?

This gesture is so delicate and quick, mysterious and challenging. It’s the place where we fall, it’s the error. But it is also the womb of possibility, holding the mysteries of the substance and transubstantiation. There, a Goddess dwells who holds out her hand to us. The spirit of a gentle alchemy.

Courtesy Becomes Sensitivity of Heart

In a moment full of struggle and anger, this saving presence draws near. Up in the sky we not only have the stars of the constellation of the Virgin. The white light of these stars turns into the golden light of the Sun, filtered through the Sign of Virgo. And in the world—through the holiest of the spirits—it transforms in love, in all-prevailing Love.

Usually, we find this Zodiacal Virtue expressed as “Courtesy becomes steadiness of feeling”. But in my opinion, this translation misses the sense of touch brought into the sphere of the heart. So I prefer translate it as “Sensitivity of Heart”.

At first, courtesy is just about manners. But in time it trains our soul to feel that subtle space between us and the other person. What’s living there, again in this mysterious place in between? All the unsaid, all the words we are too afraid or too proud to say. Courtesy, that sometimes we can just call kindness, is about honoring this space.

It becomes the art of welcoming the other person, inviting them to connect to us. And it doesn’t matter what we say. Sometimes it’s better to say nothing, so that something else might find for us the words we don’t have.

This is in my opinion the sensitivity of heart—one of the doors to the Sophia.

Upcoming Astrological Events

Tomorrow Mercury is stepping inside the shadow period, before turning retrograde in Libra on September 27th. This transit is going to complete the three stages of the Elemental Triangle of Air we’ve been talking across the year.

As we’ve seen, Air is the main element of the year. And with a Mercury in Libra challenges are going to focus on the relationship with others. So please, be kind with people.

In October we are going to also have an interesting new Moon in Libra, which is going to involve Mars before the planet enters in Scorpio, its nocturnal domicile.

Then we are going to have Eclipse Season 2, starting with a Partial Lunar Eclipse on November 19th. Immediately following, we are going to have a Total Solar Eclipse on December 4th.

December is going to be very interesting, also because we are going to talk about Venus Retrograde in Capricorn and Jupiter getting definitely back to Pisces (I’m going to consider them as part of 2022, though).

On top of that, we’re also going to witness to the backlash of the Saturn Uranus Square, since it’s going to be perfect again on Christmas Eve.

Sun Enters Aries 2021 — The Chart of the Astrological New Year

Reading Time : 6 minutes

Astrology is the Art of Beginnings. The beginning of our life, the moment we take our first breath, is reflected in our Natal Chart. And in this reflection we can recognize the potential of the life we’ve chosen to live when we came down into this world.

The same happens with the year. The new Astrological Year is born at the very moment when the Sun enters Aries—the first sign. A new cycle starts. And the chart we draw up for that moment represents the potential of the whole year to come.

Sun Enters Aries 2021

As we know it’s difficult, if not even impossible, to read properly a chart without the astrological houses. In fact not only the astrological houses tells us which planet in a chart is stronger than the other. But they also give us more details about the area of life (or existence) in which a planetary force shows up.

This is a crucial piece of information that depends on where we are on Earth at the moment the event takes place. Of course analyzing the entrance of the Sun in Aries in all possible latitudes on Earth wouldn’t be an option. However, we can at least make use of Astrocartography to see where and which planets are going to be stronger on Earth during the event.

Sun Enters Aries 2021

We report below the astrological chart for the entrance of the Sun in Aries for this year. As you can see the chart starts with the ascendant at 0° Aries since we are not going to take houses into account.

The first thing we can notice is that the Planets are more or less divided into small groups. Hence, let’s analyze them separately according to the group to which they belong. We are going to find this division useful looking at Astrocartography later on.

Sun Enters Aquarius 2021 — Purification, Discretion and Chaos

Reading Time : 3 minutes

Today the Sun enters Aquarius. In silence, the ice becomes transparent and welcomes the rays of the new sun in all its purity. The light returns and the ascent begins again. Gathered in the heart of winter, we guard the seed of our resolutions for the new year.

A few more days and it will be February. The name of this month has a double meaning. On one hand it means “fever”, on the other “purification”. It’s ironic finding the anniversary of one year of covid-19 falling under this month.

Yet, a purification of sort did happen in 2020. The earth deeply regenerated itself and even the ozone hole has closed. Mother Earth showed us that she can make it by herself, that she doesn’t really need us to do her thing. She just expect us to not bother her work too much.

But what about the fever meaning related to this month? Fever was also seen as a form of purification, even if not one of the most pleasant. In fact all the sulphuric forces accumulated through out the year find here a sort of threshold. In the opposite sign of Leo, they burst in a sudden fever and disappear.

Discretion becomes Meditative Power

In our annual journey through the zodiacal virtues given to us by Rudolf Steiner, we find for the Aquarius the virtue of Discretion. There is something elegant in avoiding to reveal too much about ourselves or other people. And as you can see here, we are again asked to step back for a moment in order to live an inner life.

Sun Enters Scorpio 2020 — Crossing the Threshold Alone

Reading Time : 4 minutes

The Sun has set. The light at dusk turns red, as if it was filtered by the black earth. The twilight resonates with the deepest parts of our soul. “There is life beyond death”. This is what the Sun tells us, as it goes through the sign of Scorpio.

The golden leaves on the trees begin to fall and rot. Nature falls prey to a magical sleep, shrouded in a thick fog. Our animal part feels the call of lethargy, as our vital forces diminish. And in the mist we can feel the echo of an ancient time when the curtain of the senses had not blinded us yet.

Have we turned on an inner light? Does our lamp have enough oil to make it through the season? Did we rekindle the spiritual flame inside of us?

Sun Enters Scorpio 2020: pumpkins, candles and tea lights

We all know the shadows are coming back. They are rising quickly from the memory of last spring. The specter of another lockdown hangs over us. And the fear of contagion has now returned. Thus, the questions above are anything but abstract or rhetorical.

Sun Enters Libra 2020 — Approaching Michaelmas

Reading Time : 4 minutes

The Sun enters Libra, the last season of the year is eventually here. How is it possible? Where did summer go? It’s been like just a moment of fresh air, a sigh of relief caught between all the restrictions we’ve been through. And boom—it is already gone.

The Autumn Equinox was supposed to be a moment of perfect balance. Light and darkness meeting each other perfectly halfway, exchanging the baton. But this year knows no balance at all. 2020 is going to be remembered as a year full of extremes.

And now that fall is coming, we can feel it in the air. We need more light, more warmth, more life. Too much death and fear have been running through the ethers. We are not ready for darkness and cold yet, nor for witnessing Mother Nature’s death.

When there was light out there we faced our own shadows, in isolation. Now that the time of darkness is getting here we feel like we’ve already payed the price. Never have we experienced such a great need for inner light.

Sun Enters Virgo 2020 — Moving with Grace through Challenges

Reading Time : 4 minutes

The last month of summer has begun. The Sun left the flaming Leo to step into the sign of the Lady. The Virgin dressed in pure white, holding a ear of golden wheat.

A purification process begins. The sulphur coming up from summer heat, bearer of the forces of the dragon, is counterbalanced by our rising discipline. Little by little, everything starts moving smoothly again as the air gets cooler and the days shorter and shorter.

You can almost feel it sometimes. A mixed feeling of nostalgia and relief after a late summer storm. The sunset light turning into a golden-honey shade, as the wind carries a different smell with it. The first signs of autumn peep timidly.

The Power of Kindness

As the excess of heat eases down, our instincts get dulled. Anger, agitation, frustration, sexual drive—the sulphur that wrapped us up begins to thin out like a morning fog. We start to perceive other people back again, beyond our ego-wall. And the virtue of the Virgo can rise.

Sun Enters Leo Bringing Compassion and Freedom

Reading Time : 3 minutes

A noble heart burning with passion, shining like gold upon the sea of chaos. The wise king, the good father, the Savior. The Sun enters his sign, reaching again the maximum of light and heat. The Star is at home.

Balance and openness belong to the heart. Not to the cold and bright head, enclosed in the skull. Not even to the dark and hot limbs, radiating from the body. They belong to the heart region—to the center—where the head opens down into the spine and the ribs curve into a protective embrace.

Anthroposophy says that the figure of man is threefold. We find the nerve-sense system in the head region, represented by the Eagle. The motor-metabolic system in the limb region, represented by the Bull. And the rhythmic system in the respiratory and circulatory organs in the chest region, represented by the Lion.

Leo, the Lion, the sign of the Heart, celestial house of the Sun.

Horn of Plenty

Abundance, Compassion and Freedom

“Our mind is enriched by what we receive, our heart by what we give” said Victor Hugo. Even in times of crisis Nature gives herself abundantly as August approaches. In the time of the first harvest festival we are surrounded by the riches that flow from the horn of plenty.

And when our material needs and worries are unburdened by all this generosity we are blessed with the opportunity to stop looking at us. Me, me, me.. the chattering of the ego subsides and casually we find ourselves walking in other people’s shoes. Leaving out for a moment our struggles, we perceive those of others. And Compassion arises in us.

Zodiac Symbol of Leo

COMPASSION
becomes
FREEDOM
—Virtues of Leo by R. Steiner and H.P. Blavatsky—

Compassion becomes Freedom. But it is us what we mainly free ourselves from. By diving deep with all our being in the image of others, letting it live as it is inside of us. Dwelling in this central space is getting to know a dimension free from judgment and power.

After all, we are human beings next to other human beings. We walk together through this life learning from trial and error. Do we really need to judge? And if we do it, to what end?

Jupiter sextile Neptune: An Idealistic Impulse

On July 27th we are going to assist to the first sextile between Jupiter and Neptune retrograde. As we were saying in a previous article, these events are precious windows than enables us to reconnect to higher ideals. No doubt Compassion is one of them.

We can follow this astral stream to tap in a world of creative imagination to rethink the world. We had enough bad omens for 2020. Now we need new strengths of inspiration to make the world a better place.

A world where the forces of the heart are not going to be mocked or looked down at as naive. Or poetry seen as useless and mawkish. As Novalis provocatively said, reality is poetic and poetry is reality. And doesn’t ingenuity consist in denying one aspect of reality?
