Sun enters Libra 2021 — Reading the Heavenly Writing on Michaelmas

Reading Time : 5 minutes

On Sunday, September 19th I was invited by my friend Giorgio Tarditi Spagnoli to join him in his annual path of anthroposophical meetings called “Vivente Antroposofia” (Living Anthroposophy) to talk about the Archangel Michael (who’s now ascended to the spheres of the Archai, the Spirits of Time). The event was hosted on Opera Omnia Online, a project by Antonio Passarelli.

While Giorgio introduced us to the rich symbolical meanings of the sword and the scale, walking us through the Mysteries of Mithras and the Myth of Perseus, I focused more on the Astrosophical perspective.

In this article I’m going to briefly describing my contribute to the session we led together, which in my opinion turned out to be a beautiful tribute to the forces of this high spiritual being.

Michaelmas 2021, Choosing the right moment

What we want to do in this article is take a look to the chart of the festival of Michael, which falls on September 29th (today!). So in order to have a chart to work on, we had to choose the very moment in which Michael’s day begins. As you may know, astrology is an Art of Time, and the moment an event begins (whatever it is) describes its whole potential.

So we decided to take the very beginning of the day, but understood from an esoteric perspective. Traditionally, this moment corresponds to the sunset of the previous day. That is September 28th at 18:57, Rome (Italy).

Sun Enters Libra 2020 — Approaching Michaelmas

Reading Time : 4 minutes

The Sun enters Libra, the last season of the year is eventually here. How is it possible? Where did summer go? It’s been like just a moment of fresh air, a sigh of relief caught between all the restrictions we’ve been through. And boom—it is already gone.

The Autumn Equinox was supposed to be a moment of perfect balance. Light and darkness meeting each other perfectly halfway, exchanging the baton. But this year knows no balance at all. 2020 is going to be remembered as a year full of extremes.

And now that fall is coming, we can feel it in the air. We need more light, more warmth, more life. Too much death and fear have been running through the ethers. We are not ready for darkness and cold yet, nor for witnessing Mother Nature’s death.

When there was light out there we faced our own shadows, in isolation. Now that the time of darkness is getting here we feel like we’ve already payed the price. Never have we experienced such a great need for inner light.

Why It’s Important to Feed an Inner Light

I can feel the warmth of sunlight on the face; the smells of the tired earth; the cool autumn wind on my chest. Today is Michaelmas, the festival dedicated to the Archangel Michael—warrior of the light. It is a potent archetype which reminds us to start feeding an inner light inside of us—preventing darkness to reach out our hearts.

Michael doesn’t kill the dragon. Our lower nature must not be rejected, condemned or despised. The only demons that exist in us are the ones we need. Sometimes we all need to blame something—or someone—especially when things go wrong. It is part of our nature—one of those weaknesses that make us human. And also the main reason why we create scapegoats (what demons really are).

Micheal’s symbols—the sword and the scale—have several traditional meanings. But today, as if I was interpreting a personal dream, I’m going to tell you the meaning they have for me. I like to think they are an exhortation to fight for that frail balance I was talking about on the Autumnal Equinox.

November is a tough month, isn’t it? It is the period of the year when the life of summer definitively dies. That’s why—as the external light fades away—an inner light must gradually replace it. After all, what’s depression if not the feeling that every light has gone? This might happen suddenly, but most of times you slip slowly into it.

That’s why it is important to feed an inner light. It can be anything that resonates within you: the memory of your loved ones, your meditation practice, contemplating nature, a sense of honor and integrity, and so on. Just find your own way—it will be like having a lantern that enlightens your way through the season.
