Eclipses 2021 Season 1 — Super Blood Moon in Sagittarius on Vesak, Purification of Thinking

Reading Time : 6 minutes

“I don’t envision a single thing that, when unguarded, leads to such great harm as the mind.
The mind, when unguarded leads to great harm.”
— Gautama Buddha (Anguttara Nikaya 1.33)

The silver disc of the Full Moon hovers huge in the silent sky. And during a warm spring night its pale light suddenly turns blood red, as it relentlessly crosses Cauda Draconis—the Dragon’s Tail. As the world celebrates the birth and enlightenment of Gautama Buddha, the coils of the Dragon wrap up all around it. And here’s the night of Vesak 2021, starting the first season of this year’s eclipses.

The next Full Moon on May 26 is going to be a Total Lunar Eclipse, taking place at 5° 25′ Sagittarius. And not only the Moon is going to completely tinge with red, turning in a so called Blood Moon. But the event is also going to happen during a Supermoon. Meaning that the luminary is going to appear particularly big due to its proximity to the Earth (perigee).

So what are the implications of this event on Earth? What can Astrosophy tell us in regard to Lunar Eclipses? And what does the figure of Buddha have to do with all this? In this article we are going to answer to these questions, focusing in particular on the recent entrance of Jupiter in Pisces.

Mercury Retrograde in Gemini 2021 — Second Step of the Elemental Triangle of Air

Reading Time : 4 minutes

Gemini is the sign of networking. Its task is to connect together realities that would remain isolated otherwise. Crossroads, streets, trade routes, the neighborhood, public transportation, newspapers. Information, goods and people are restlessly exchanged by the Master of Words—Mercury. And from its sphere the Spirits of Language emanate their influence down to the earth, guiding and uniting entire nations under the same tongue.

Mercury Retrograde in Gemini 2021: feathers and fabric

Mercury in Gemini is very powerful. Intelligence has wings, and all the significations related to communication and movement thrive in here. But what happens when Mercury gets retrograde? Is this accidental debility enough to break the spell?

We’ve already discussed about the general effect of Mercury Retrograde introducing the Elemental Triangle of Air. This year, through its retrograde stations across the Air signs, Mercury is going to draw that shape in the sky. In late January Mercury in Aquarius started this process, activating a stellium (cumulus of planets) in the first Air sign of the sequence. With his transit through Gemini, Mercury is now going to make the second step of the Triangle of Air.

Let’s now take a look at the aspects that Mercury is going to make during his stay in Gemini, to better understand what to expect from it.

Jupiter in Pisces 2021 — The Relief from Tensions brought by the Great Benefic

Reading Time : 6 minutes

Nature is in full bloom. An explosion of green has quickly covered back the earth, allowing the morning dew on the leaves to open up to the Taurus Sun and to the mysteries of the ethers. The expanding warmth and light of the season witness to the unfolding of life, as the Goddess crosses her garden. Venus makes the land fertile through her touch, as Jupiter is about to bless the heavens from above.

On May 13th the Good Father of the Skies announces his temporary return in Pisces, his nocturnal celestial domicile. A place from which vivid images full of life stream down to the Earth—source of inspiration for the Arts since ancient times.

So what does Jupiter in Pisces mean? Why is this transit just momentary? Let’s tackle this topic now, trying to get a bigger picture of the fundamental spiritual impulse it brings.

Jupiter and Pisces Archetypes

If we want to understand the game of the Archetypes, the living thought-forces emanated by the planets, we need to grasp how their significations combine. In fact each Hermetic Art, such as Astrology, reveals itself as a form of Combinatorial Art. So if we want to deepen the meanings of Jupiter in Pisces, we need to look at the living ideas emanated by both.

Astrosophy and The Planetary Spheres — The Sublunary Sphere and the Soul World

Reading Time : 9 minutes

The crescent Moon standing out in the night sky fascinated humanity since ancient times. Its mysterious, pale silver light has always been associated with the milk of the Great Mother. And her relationship with the waters and the tides immediately recalled a feminine imagination.

In a previous post we discussed about the Earth and the Four Ethers as the representatives of the Phsycal-Etheric World. In this article we are going to continue our exploration of the Planetary Spheres. We are going to talk about the Moon in relation to the so called Sublunary Sphere. And we’re also going to introduce the higher reality of the Soul World (or Astral World) as described by Rudolf Steiner.

Sublunary Sphere divided in 4 layers

But before jumping into this topic we need to introduce the concept of the Planetary Spheres. This because from a spiritual perspective a “Planet” is something very different from what in Astronomy usually means. This fundamental misunderstanding brought a lot of confusion concerning the way we view today the ancient conception on the Planets.

So let’s first and foremost introduce this concept that is going to accompany us through out all this series of articles.

Sun Enters Taurus 2021 — The Goddess and the Garden

Reading Time : 4 minutes

I don’t know how’s the weather where you live, but it’s still relatively cold here in north Italy. The sunlight, the flowers, the birds singing—everything seems to talk about a new start. But it doesn’t really feel like it to me.

Maybe it’s for the cold. Maybe it’s for the whole situation. After one year of something we’ve already seen happening over and over again we are all very tired. And the pushing energy of new beginnings coming from the Aries is now fading away, giving way to the stabilizing forces of Taurus.

Usually when the Sun enters Taurus we start feeling that spring sleepiness. The forces of fixed Earth seduce our just awakened senses. We want to enjoy life pleasures more. Good company and good food. It’s time to take a break.

Sun Enters Taurus 2021: a painting of Venus
The Birth of Venus by William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1879)

The activity of our spirit turns itself outwardly. Contemplation of the beauty of Nature and Art comes easy, as the Anima Mundi—the Soul of the World—exhales out of the Earth, longing for the skies.

Venus, the Goddess of Love and Harmony, thrives gracefully in Taurus. She’s at home.

Astrosophy and The Planetary Spheres — The Earth and the Four Ethers

Reading Time : 9 minutes

“Anthroposophy is a path of knowledge, to guide the spiritual in the human being to the spiritual in the Universe”
—Rudolf Steiner, Anthroposophical Leading Thoughts (1924)

One of the goals of Astrosophy is to create a bridge between the world of the stars and the spiritual realities dwelling behind them. Being part of the Anthroposophical current, these efforts definitely fall under Steiner’s definition reported in the opening quote. Indeed, one of the tasks of Anthroposophy as a path of knowledge is to provide an image of the higher worlds—the spiritual realities beyond the world of the senses.

In this regard we want to consider Astrosophy as a complementary discipline to Astrology. The latter studies the dynamic relationships between the stars, providing a traditional wealth of knowledge to observe and identify the Archetypes at play in the physical world. The former deepens the spiritual realities at the very foundation of this tradition.

Vulcano Eruption as a symbol of the Four Elements and Four Ethers

In this series of articles we are going to talk about the three worlds described by Anthroposophy that we sometimes mentioned in previous posts. In particular, we are going to relate them to the planetary spheres in order to have a physical reference for them. This is going to allow us to expand our representations of the traditional astrological planets as well.

So let’s start with the our planet, the Earth, and the Physical World.

Astronomicon Fonts

Reading Time : 4 minutes

Hello everyone, I’m proud to announce the release of the Astronomicon Fonts!

I’ve been working on this side project for a while, and now they are ready and free to download. The spirit of this project is to contribute to the spiritual community out there, providing a set of astrological glyphs as complete as possible. As you can see below, the style is minimal allowing the fonts to adapt and blend nicely regardless of the context.

The Project

I had designed my version of the basic astrological symbols for quite some time now. And I’ve been using my planets and zodiac signs glyphs in this website since. But for more than a year now I have also been making extensive use of Astrolog, a fantastic free and open source astrology software created by Walter Pullen.

Since I wanted to use my glyphs in Astrolog, I reached out to him offering them as a possible design for the program. An interesting exchange of ideas and requests began, and starting from the planets and signs I ended up adding more and more glyphs.

This way all the objects supported by Astrolog where slowly added, and now they are all present in the Astronomicon Fonts. This makes them one of the most complete astrology font set around!

I would like to thank Walter Pullen for his support and contribution to the project, especially for his patience in spotting little details and errors to correct.
